  • Changes to Chester and South Clwyd CAMRA Branch Friday 27 October 2023

The C&SC CAMRA branch currently has 741 members, with approximately 400 living in the South Clwyd area.

As part of the recent Regions Review across CAMRA, it’s been agreed that the branch be split to create a new sub-branch (Dee Valley) for those living in Wales. All members affected will be moved to Dee Valley sub- branch by mid-November. The main branch, Chester will be renamed to reflect this change.

This will not affect membership benefits or status and members do not need to do anything unless South Clwyd members wish to keep Chester as your primary branch.

Once the change has been made, Dee Valley sub-branch will appear on membership records of South Clwyd members at that time. Any new/renewed membership cards currently being issued may still have Chester and South Clwyd on them in the short term.

Anyone that wishes to remain in what will become the renamed Chester Branch can do so. You will need to contact ku.gro.armac@pihsrebmem and request that your branch is locked to Chester. This will mean that when those members living in the South Clwyd area are moved in mid-November, you will remain in the Chester branch.

A meeting for the new Dee Valley sub-branch members has been arranged by the new sub-branch Chair, Alan Roberts, so they can start forming a new committee and planning campaigning and other activities. The meeting will take place on 22nd November at 7.30pm at the King William Inn, Top Road, Summerhill, Wrexham LL11 4TA.

All members are welcome to attend, especially those living in the new Dee Valley sub-branch area.

In the meantime, if you have any queries regarding this change, please contact the Merseyside and Cheshire regional director at: ku.gro.armac@erihsehcedisyesrem.dr

With best wishes. Nick Bosley Regional Director

  • CaSC Branch Social to Halifax Thursday 4 May 2023

After a false start when the Secretary got on the wrong train and then the train broke down at Manchester Victoria, a group of branch members enjoyed a great day out on Thursday 4th May sampling the superb pubs and bars that Halifax has to offer. At times it must have felt like herding cats but our guide Craig Papworth managed to successfully shepherd the group round the route that started in

Seven Brothers at Square Chapel Café & Bar,

and then after a detour to take in the amazing Piece Hall,

    included

    The Meandering Bear

    ,

    Kobenhavn

    ,

    Vocation & Co

    ,

    Victorian Craft Beer

    ,

    Dukes

    ,

    The Grayston Unity

    ,

    The Royal Oak

    .

    and

    The Three Pigeons

The weather stayed good, if cool, until the dash back to the station to catch the last direct train home when the heavens opened. Fortunately there was no drama on the return journey.

The consensus on the train back was that Victorian Craft was the best pub of the trip however there was no clear favourite for best beer!
